vertical milling machine

Vertical Milling Machine Sourcing is an independent sourcing partner. Share workpiece size, fixture height, quantity and destination so we can request factory quotes for a vertical milling machine. Table travel, quill stroke and knee travel are separate envelope numbers; none of them alone proves the cutter will clear the vise. This site covers vertical and manual knee mills. A CNC machining center with an automatic tool changer is outside the primary RFQ family unless you name it as a later comparison, not as the quoted machine.

Site interface register

Connections to confirm
InterfaceBuyer input
ElectricalVoltage, phase and frequency for the spindle motor and for any power-feed or DRO accessories that ship with the mill; connected load in kW if the plant already has a panel limit.
UtilitiesCoolant method, chip handling, and compressed air demand if a power drawbar or mist system is to be quoted; footprint around table travel, not only the casting outline.
ControlsWhether a digital readout, power feeds or a PLC interface already exists on the shop standard; a readout is not CNC interpolation and should not be priced as an automatic tool changer.

Site interface register

A vertical milling machine RFQ should list plant connections before factories invent them. Electrical supply, coolant and control accessories change both the crate contents and the site work. Official mill catalogs often publish spindle speed in rpm, table travel in inches or millimetres, and continuous power in horsepower; treat those as comparison fields, not as this website’s ratings.

ElectricalWrite three-phase supply as voltage / phase / Hz. Ask whether DRO scales and table power feeds share that supply or need a separate transformer. Do not treat a 60 Hz US shop as interchangeable with a 50 Hz factory test without a written motor statement.
UtilitiesName flood, mist or dry cutting. If compressed air is required for a drawbar, record pressure and flow rather than writing “air available”. Cooling water is uncommon on a small knee mill, but a central coolant tank still needs floor space and a drain path.
ControlsState whether X, Y and/or Z should include power feed, and which axes need a digital readout. Ask for the scale travel to cover the quoted table travel. A pendant or PLC interface belongs here only if the plant already requires it.

Where milling cost actually splits

Machine

Base knee, ram, quill, spindle taper, listed vise or not, power feeds, DRO, coolant tank and any collet set named in the quotation text.

Delivery

Export crate, inland haul to port, ocean or air, insurance, destination and the Incoterm the manufacturer will actually print.

Site

Rigging through the door, leveling, three-phase hook-up, operator familiarization and spare belts or tooling that are not in the crate.

No numerical saving claim without comparable quotations.

Questions before the first quote

Which procurement scope is covered by vertical milling machine?
Connections to confirm
InterfaceBuyer input
ElectricalSpindle motor nameplate versus accessory motors; connected load if the panel is already allocated.
UtilitiesCoolant, chip pans and any compressed air for a power drawbar.
ControlsPower feeds and DRO as optional line items, not as an assumed CNC package.
Does the workpiece and fixture fit under the quill with the chosen tool?

Give workpiece dimensions and mass, vise or fixture height, tool length and the reach needed for the longest cut. Ask the supplier to check quill-to-table distance with that stack, not with an empty table. Knee travel and ram travel must be listed separately from table X/Y travel. A published Bridgeport-style reference may distinguish table travel, quill movement and knee movement; those fields are comparison keys, not a performance promise from this service. Continuous spindle power in HP should be separated from any short-time rating, and the speed range in rpm should match the material and cutter you intend to run.
